Routine Ideas

So you've come back from cheerleading camp. Now what? You know that when you start into supporting the fall sports season, the opposing cheerleaders will most likely be performing the same dances as you and to the same music.

You program (and probably your team's parents) have paid good money for the material the team has learned at camp and you don't want to waste it. What should you do? We have an idea for you that can be easily implemented within one practice, can be re-invented all season long, will keep your crowd pleased and your team on top of the competition!

Mix and Match Dance Moves
  1. Download an eight 8-count dance music mix from cheerleadingremixes.com*.

  2. Take two dances that you learned at camp. Preferably of similar skill level and pick out two 8-counts from each dance.
You'll want to pick the 8-counts that are best executed by your team. You'll probably (maybe even unwillingly) want to throw in that cute new dance move that no one on your team does exactly the same way, but the team loves it and it makes the dance fun for them.

  3. Now add a transition between the two different 16 counts and an end stunt. (see below for details)

  4. Voila! You now have used your camp material and added fresh music to make your team the most unique in your county!
Now put the routine together like this:
  • 1-2 eight count intro for clapping, crowd involvement and plain team preparation (depending on your team skill)

  • dance for 2 eight counts (picked from a camp dance)

  • 1 8-count transition to new formation (keeps crowd involved in routine)

  • dance for 2 more eight counts (picked from a camp dance)

  • Now you either have 1 or 2 eight counts left you can either:

(2 8-count left) use one 8-count for transition into stunt prep, then use last 8 counts to put up a stunt for end of music

(1 8-count left) easy transition for 6 counts and hit a clean end-formation for crowd appeal

Both of these options, makes your team stand out above the other schools while at the same time you are working on clean transitions and stunts for the upcoming competition season.

You can mix and match dance moves that team has already learned for countless routine varieties that you'll use all season long!

Good luck you can do it!

*Eight 8-count music mix can be purchased for $15 dollars each. 5 cheerleading music mixes (of your choice) can be put onto a personal CD for $30 (What a deal!). Check it out!
